micro1's data license terms for companies: what you would be agreeing to

Before a company sells operational or archived data to micro1, it signs a data license. This is a plain-language summary of the master terms micro1 posts, with the clauses an owner should read twice.

Updated October 17, 2026 · figures dated and sourced

This summary is based on micro1's Data License Master Terms, last updated 7 October 2026, and on micro1's data partnerships page as we read it on 17 October 2026. The version in force on an order form's effective date is the one that governs that order. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice.

What micro1 says it wants

  • Operational data: SOPs, knowledge bases, internal documentation, CRM data, project histories and QA processes.
  • Decision patterns: how teams evaluate information and make operational decisions.
  • Feedback on AI output in real business settings.
  • Company profile: operationally mature companies with 30 or more employees and established documentation, kept in English. The program prioritizes US companies, then other Western markets, with demand strongest in the US, UK and Canada. No industry is excluded.

micro1 lists three pay tiers for qualified partnerships: $100k or more, $500k or more for large datasets or participation across several teams, and $1M or more for highly unique proprietary data. It says the final figure depends on dataset size, workflow complexity, quality, domain expertise and uniqueness, and its estimate tool asks for employee count, years of data, number of business entities, the share of data in English, headquarters region and whether the data is regulated. Treat the tiers as a range micro1 lists, not an offer.

The process micro1 describes

  1. Get started: a short assessment.
  2. Evaluation: micro1 reviews the submission for fit.
  3. Discovery: if there is potential, micro1 asks for more information and schedules a call about data and privacy requirements.
  4. Partnership: if approved, the agreement and data requirements are finalized.

What the license says, clause by clause

TopicWhat the terms sayWhat to think about
The licenseWorldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable through multiple tiers, for use, modification and AI and machine learning training. It attaches to data micro1 has accepted and paid for.Once accepted and paid, you cannot take it back. micro1 does not have to retrain models or delete derivatives built from paid data.
OwnershipYou keep your intellectual property rights in the data. micro1 owns its own products and any derivatives and improvements of the data. The license is non-exclusive.You warrant you have not given anyone else the same rights on the same or similar terms.
PaymentThe price is in the order form. You may invoice only after micro1 accepts the data or it is deemed accepted, and micro1 pays undisputed amounts within the order form's period.Get the payment period and currency in the order form before you start collecting data.
Acceptancemicro1 has 30 business days after delivery to reject the data, and silence means deemed acceptance. Defect claims must be raised within 60 days of acceptance, except for IP, privacy, consent, provenance, fraud and indemnified matters.Money arrives after delivery and acceptance, not at signing.
Personal dataYou warrant you have all consents and legal bases for any personal information, including for AI training. micro1 must redact, anonymize or pseudonymize before sublicensing and must not knowingly re-identify people.Chat archives and CRM records are full of employee and customer data. Check consents and contracts first.
Excluded dataNo health information, biometric identifiers, children's data, payment card or financial account data, or export-controlled or classified information, unless the order form says otherwise.Review the archive for these before you promise a dataset.
ReleasesYou warrant you hold releases from anyone whose likeness, voice or persona appears, and you must keep consent and release records for at least seven years after the agreement ends. This matters most for video and recorded calls.
Indemnity and liabilityYou must defend and indemnify micro1 against third-party claims about the data, including privacy law claims. Each side's liability is capped at 3 times the fees under the order form, except fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct. The cap does not clearly exclude indemnity.Your exposure may exceed the price. Have a lawyer read this one.
TerminationEither side may end the agreement on 30 days' written notice, or immediately after a material breach not cured within 10 days. micro1 may terminate immediately, with no cure period and a refund, if the data manifest was materially inaccurate or misleading. An accurate manifest matters, because the refund right survives acceptance.
ConfidentialityThe existence and terms of the order form are confidential, and micro1 cannot disclose your identity as the source without consent. Obligations run three years after termination, longer for trade secrets.Check whether you may tell your lawyers, investors and buyers of the business.
DisputesBinding JAMS arbitration in California under California law.Arbitration far from home is expensive. Factor it in.

If the company no longer exists

A defunct company adds a question the terms cannot answer: who has the authority to sign. A dissolved company may be controlled by a liquidator or trustee, and creditors or the buyer of the assets may have claims on the archives. Read our guide to selling company data for the checklist, and settle ownership before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Is selling company data to micro1 a sale or a license?

A license. micro1's master terms say the data is licensed, not sold. You keep your rights in the data, and micro1 gets a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable license to use it, modify it, train AI models on it and sublicense it. The license covers only data micro1 has accepted and paid for.

Does micro1 remove personal information?

The terms say micro1 must redact, anonymize or pseudonymize personal information before it sublicenses data for AI training. They also place the burden on you: you warrant that you have every consent and legal basis for collecting, sharing and using personal information, including for AI training. If you cannot back that up, do not sign.

How long does payment take?

The terms let you invoice only after micro1 accepts the data or is deemed to have accepted it, and micro1 has 30 business days after delivery to reject it. Silence counts as acceptance. The payment period itself is set in the order form, not in the master terms.

Can micro1 take the money back?

In some cases. If the data manifest was materially inaccurate or misleading, micro1 can terminate immediately with no cure period and require a refund, even after acceptance. Claims about privacy, consent, provenance and intellectual property are not subject to the 60-day limit that applies to ordinary defects.

Do I need a lawyer?

Yes. The terms include broad warranties, a defend-and-indemnify obligation for third-party claims about the data, binding arbitration in California and a liability cap that may not apply to indemnity. We are not lawyers, and this page is a plain-language summary, not advice.
