Short answer

Remote AI training work exists at every skill level, but pay follows credentials. Beginners can start with general evaluation or annotation work at lower rates, and experts reach $100 an hour or more. The work is project-based and can pause, so treat it as flexible side income.

What "remote" means here

You do the work on your own computer, usually through the platform's web tools, as an independent contractor. There is no office and, on most platforms, no minimum hours. That flexibility is also why hours are not guaranteed. Read AI training jobs for what the work involves.

No experience: the realistic entry points

With no specialist credentials, the doors that are open in our reviews are:

  • General evaluation. micro1's AI Product Evaluator role listed $14 to $36 an hour on 16 October 2026.
  • General annotation. DataAnnotation says some projects need no coding or technical background, after a one-attempt assessment. See data annotation jobs.
  • Task labeling. Remotasks says all you need is a computer and an internet connection, but its Trustpilot score is 2.5, so read the review first.

The honest caveat: entry-level rates are low and tasks can run out. Many people use these roles to build a track record while they work toward a credential that pays more. Our step-by-step guide shows how to prepare.

Entry level versus expert

  • Entry level: follows guidelines, little domain knowledge needed, pay in the teens to thirties per hour on the listings we saw.
  • Mid-level professional: software, accounting and IT roles at micro1 listed $50 to $75 an hour.
  • Expert: lawyers, scientists, ML engineers and senior finance roles listed $100 to $300 or more at micro1.

Red flags for remote AI job offers

  • A message on a chat app offering a job you never applied for.
  • A request for money, gift cards or bank details before you have done any work.
  • Promises of a fixed high income from day one.
  • A recruiter on a free email address claiming to represent a platform. Apply only on the platform's own site.
  • A location workaround. Outlier's rules, for example, prohibit using a VPN to hide where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work as an AI trainer from home?

Yes. The platforms we reviewed are all online, and you do the work on your own computer as an independent contractor. micro1's role listing we opened in full was labeled remote, Outlier says you set your own hours, and Remotasks says you need only a computer and an internet connection. Check country rules first, because eligibility differs by platform, and remember that remote does not mean guaranteed hours.

Are remote AI training jobs real?

Yes, the platforms in our reviews are real companies that pay contractors, and they also have documented problems such as lost access and scarce projects. Scams exist that copy their names. Apply only on the platform's own site and never pay to be hired.

How much do remote AI trainers make?

It depends on your credentials. On the listings we saw, entry-level pay was in the teens to thirties per hour, mid-level professional roles at micro1 listed $50 to $75, and expert roles listed $100 to $300 or more. Those are listed ranges, not earnings, since hours are not guaranteed. See the entry level versus expert section above and AI training jobs.

Can I really get paid to train AI?

Yes. Outlier says it pays weekly on Tuesdays, Mercor weekly on Wednesdays and Alignerr weekly by Friday, and micro1 pays twice a month. Hours are not guaranteed. See AI training jobs for the full answer.

Which AI training jobs are open to people with no experience?

The lowest bars we found are Remotasks (computer and internet), DataAnnotation general projects (some need no coding or technical background, after an assessment) and micro1's general AI Product Evaluator role, which listed $14 to $36 an hour on 16 October 2026. The better-paid roles ask for credentials.

Can I do AI training jobs from Mexico?

Mexico is on the published lists of Outlier and Mercor, and not on micro1's excluded list. Handshake AI is US only. Remotasks lists Mexico on an availability article dated 2022. DataAnnotation does not list countries. Alignerr does not either, and its FAQ says identity verification accepts only US documents. Appen and TELUS set eligibility per project, so test by starting an application.

Do remote AI training jobs pay weekly?

Some do. Outlier pays weekly on Tuesdays, Mercor weekly on Wednesdays, Handshake AI by Wednesday and Alignerr weekly by Friday. micro1 pays twice a month, Appen monthly and DataAnnotation on request through PayPal. TELUS does not publish its schedule.

Can I work full time in remote AI training?

Most platforms offer project-based work with no guaranteed hours. A few projects run for months, but plan for pauses.
