Short answer
Remotasks is a real platform backed by Scale AI, and it says it pays weekly. The evidence on reliability is weaker than for the other platforms we have reviewed: a 2.5 Trustpilot score, reviewers describing scarce tasks and slow or missing payouts, and a 2024 report that it shut down in several countries. If you try it, treat it as small, occasional income and withdraw earnings regularly.
What Remotasks is
Remotasks says you can get paid to label images, transcribe audio and annotate data that trains AI. It states it is powered and backed by Scale AI and is available in more than 90 countries. Tasks come from projects you unlock, and training is offered through short online courses or hands-on training.
How hiring works
Remotasks says all you need is a computer and an internet connection. Its home page does not list age, education or other eligibility rules, and it does not describe the sign-up steps in detail. Training and qualification happen inside the platform, so what you see will depend on your country and the projects open to you.
What Remotasks pays
Remotasks does not publish rates on its home page. It says harder tasks pay more and that you are paid based on the quality and number of tasks you complete. It does not give dollar amounts. Some Trustpilot reviewers describe low pay per task. We are not quoting a number because Remotasks does not publish one.
How you are paid
- When: Remotasks says taskers are paid weekly.
- How: PayPal or AirTM, based on the quality and number of tasks you complete.
The home page does not describe fees, minimum payouts or timing in detail. Reviewers' experiences vary: some describe fast or instant payouts, and others describe slow processing and one withdrawal that showed as successful but never arrived.
Is Remotasks legit? What reviewers and the press say
On 16 October 2026 Remotasks had a 2.5 TrustScore on Trustpilot from 806 reviews: 26 percent five stars, 59 percent one star. Only 46 of the reviews are from the last 12 months, and Trustpilot notes the company has not recently invited customers to review, so the score may not be representative. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews. We read 20 recent reviews plus featured excerpts: 9 were one-star, 9 five-star and 2 three-star.
- Praised: fast or instant payouts for some, and helpful customer service for a few.
- Criticized: low pay per task, slow processing, a withdrawal that never arrived, no tasks available (one reviewer returning after two years saw none), unresponsive support, and several reviewers who call the platform a scam. Trustpilot also notes Remotasks has not replied to negative reviews.
The calls of "scam" are reviewers' opinions, and we could not verify them. Treat them as a sign of how frustrated some users became.
The 2024 shutdowns
Rest of World reported on 28 March 2024 that Remotasks had shut down entirely in Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan over the previous month, and had halted new sign-ups in Thailand, Vietnam and Poland. A Scale AI representative cited "enhanced security protocols" and did not name the countries. The representative said notices were sent three weeks in advance in Kenya but that contractors there did not receive them because of "operational errors", and apologized. The article does not say what happened to unpaid balances.
Risks to plan for
- Access can end. Remotasks has left whole countries before, and reviewers describe closed accounts and unanswered support tickets.
- Tasks can run out. Reviewers report long periods with no work.
- Pay is not published. Check the rate before you start each project.
Withdraw earnings often and keep your own record of tasks and payments.
Where you can work from
Remotasks says it is available in 90+ countries but does not list them. We could not confirm from its pages whether Mexico is included. Availability has also changed over time, as the 2024 reports show.

The work is different: Remotasks is task-based annotation with lower entry requirements, while micro1 recruits for specific expertise. Read our micro1 review, and see how Outlier, also tied to Scale AI, compares.
Who Remotasks suits
A good fit: people who want to try small, flexible annotation tasks with no specialist credentials and who will not depend on the money.
A poor fit: anyone who needs predictable income, or who would be hurt if access ended without notice.
