Short answer

The TELUS Digital AI Community is a real program from a large listed company, but it publishes very little about pay, payment timing or hours. The Trustpilot profile is poor (1.2 from 305 reviews) and the complaints are specific: long unpaid assessments, no work afterward, and non-payment claims. If you try it, check each role's pay, ask how and when you are paid, and do not count on the work.

What the AI Community is

TELUS Digital, the global technology division of TELUS Corporation, describes an AI Community of "over 1 million contributors" in a May 2026 release. Its pages describe raters, search and ads evaluators, linguists, annotators, data collection participants and subject matter experts, and support for more than 500 languages and dialects. Those are TELUS's own figures.

A naming note, because it confuses searches: TELUS International announced on 13 June 2024 that it was becoming TELUS Digital, and TELUS Corporation completed its purchase of the remaining shares on 31 October 2025. The legal name is still TELUS International (Cda) Inc. The AI Community is also separate from TELUS Digital's call-center jobs and from TELUS the telecom company. TELUS Corporation is Canadian, with a Vancouver address and an NYSE listing (TU) in its SEC filings, not an American company.

What the work is

Job postings describe evaluating search results and AI-generated content for relevance, accuracy and usefulness against a client's guidelines. Role titles we saw include quality assurance rater, internet assessor, ads assessor, linguistic expert, speech and audio specialist, and legal or data science experts. Some postings involve calibration sessions and ongoing quality reviews. Data collection studies, such as recording speech or submitting photos, also exist.

How hiring works

You apply on the TELUS Digital jobs site, in the AI Community category, or through its contributor portal. We could not read the portal, because it loads only in a browser app, so the steps below combine official wording with third-party descriptions and are marked accordingly.

  • Official: candidates complete "project-specific training and qualification assessments" before joining. Work is subject to quality reviews and performance monitoring.
  • Official: TELUS collects a government ID, and uses IP checks to confirm your country, which it says can lead to an application being declined.
  • Third parties: some roles require one or more exams, usually open-book, with long study materials. TELUS does not publish this.

What it pays

TELUS does not publish a program-wide rate. Pay appears in individual postings, always tied to completed tasks. Postings we saw, in one case through a job aggregator that copies them:

  • Spanish (Mexico) quality assurance rater: $9 an hour, "based on completed tasks" (closed 1 September 2026).
  • German quality assurance rater: 20.60 euros an hour.
  • US personalized internet assessor: an estimated $13 an hour.

The wording matters. An hourly figure that depends on tasks completed is an estimate, not a guaranteed hourly wage. Expert and linguist roles are advertised at higher ranges on third-party job boards, but we cannot confirm them from TELUS's own pages.

How you are paid, and your contract

TELUS's contributor privacy notice (updated 15 June 2026) says contributors enter into a "contract for services" and applies to independent contractors and consultants, separate from employees. It does not state a payment method, schedule or minimum payout, and we found none on any official page we could read. Ask these in writing before you start, and keep your own record of tasks and payments.

Is the AI Community legit? What reviewers say

On 17 October 2026 TELUS International's Trustpilot profile had a 1.2 TrustScore from 305 reviews: 5 percent five-star and 88 percent one-star. Trustpilot notes the company has not replied to negative reviews and has not recently invited reviews. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews.

Two cautions. First, this profile mixes AI Community contributors with telecom customers and call-center staff, so some of the one-star reviews are not about AI work. Second, the five-star reviews are older (2022 to mid-2025), while the recent ones are mostly negative.

  • Praised: being paid on time, and the platform being real rather than a scam, mostly in older five-star reviews. One recent three-star review says it pays reliably when work exists but that work is sporadic.
  • Criticized: long or repeated assessments that reviewers say were unpaid and ended in rejection, no tasks after qualifying, unanswered emails, accounts removed, and several reviewers who say they were not paid. A few allege fees or third-party payment requests.

Those are individual accounts we could not verify.

Scams that use this name

  • A real application never needs a fee. Several reviewers describe being asked to pay to release earnings or to receive work.
  • Apply only on telusdigital.com or its jobs and contributor sites. Be wary of recruiters on Telegram or a free email address.
  • ID verification is a normal step for legitimate applicants. Paying for a "premium ID" or "verification" is not.

Where you can work from

TELUS does not publish a country list. Roles are posted per country and language, with residency rules on some of them. On 17 October 2026 its jobs portal showed at least one Spanish part-time posting in Mexico. An earlier Mexico role, posted in July 2026 and closed on 1 September 2026, required five consecutive years of residence in Mexico. Postings come and go, so check live listings for your country.

Who it suits

A good fit: multilingual or linguistic people who can absorb unpaid qualification time, and who treat the work as occasional side income.

A poor fit: anyone who needs predictable hours, a stated pay date, or quick feedback from support.

Frequently asked questions

Is the TELUS AI Community legit?

The company is real: TELUS Digital is the technology division of TELUS Corporation, which is listed in Toronto and New York. The AI Community pays contributors under a contract for services, and some Trustpilot reviewers say they were paid on time. The same Trustpilot profile has a 1.2 score with 88 percent one-star reviews, mostly about unpaid assessments, no work after qualifying, and non-payment. That profile also mixes in telecom customers, so the score is not purely about the AI Community.

Is TELUS a legit company?

Yes, TELUS Corporation is a large, publicly listed company, and its filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission show it trading on the NYSE under TU. That says nothing about the AI Community, which is run by its TELUS Digital division and judged separately on this page. Questions about TELUS as an employer or as a phone company are outside what we can ground here.

What is TELUS AI?

On this page it means the TELUS Digital AI Community, a freelance pool for rating, annotating and reviewing AI data. TELUS says it has over 1 million contributors, covers more than 500 languages and dialects, and uses raters, search and ads evaluators, linguists, annotators and subject matter experts. TELUS may use "AI" for other products and services too, which this review does not cover.

Is it hard to get hired at TELUS?

For the AI Community, expect screening, and TELUS publishes no acceptance rate. It says candidates complete project-specific training and qualification assessments, and it collects a government ID and uses IP checks that can lead to an application being declined. Many Trustpilot reviewers say the assessments were unpaid and led to no work, so passing does not guarantee tasks. We cannot say how hard hiring is for other TELUS jobs.

Is TELUS an American company?

No. TELUS Corporation is Canadian: its SEC filings give a Vancouver, British Columbia address and show it incorporated in British Columbia, and it trades on the NYSE as TU. TELUS Digital, which runs the AI Community, is owned 100 percent by TELUS Corporation since 31 October 2025.

Is TELUS International the same as TELUS Digital?

Yes. TELUS International announced on 13 June 2024 that it was becoming TELUS Digital. Its legal name is still TELUS International (Cda) Inc. TELUS Corporation completed the purchase of the shares it did not already own on 31 October 2025 and now owns 100 percent.

Is it the same as TELUS the phone company?

No. TELUS Corporation owns both TELUS Communications (mobile, internet, TV) and TELUS Digital. The AI Community belongs to TELUS Digital. Many Trustpilot reviews for "TELUS" are about the telecom side.

How much does the TELUS AI Community pay?

There is no program-wide rate. A Mexico Spanish rater posting copied by a job aggregator listed $9 an hour "based on completed tasks", a German rater posting listed 20.60 euros and a US assessor posting listed about $13. Specialist expert roles are advertised higher on third-party boards. The hourly figure is an estimate tied to tasks completed, not a guaranteed wage.

How does TELUS pay AI Community members?

TELUS does not state the payment method or schedule on any official page we could read. Third-party sites say PayPal, Payoneer or Hyperwallet, often the month after the work. Treat that as unconfirmed and ask before you start.

Are the assessments paid?

TELUS describes "project-specific training and qualification assessments" and does not say they are paid. Many Trustpilot reviewers say the assessments were unpaid, long, and led to no work.

Can I work for the TELUS AI Community from Mexico?

Sometimes. The TELUS jobs portal showed at least one Spanish part-time posting in Mexico on 17 October 2026. An earlier Spanish (Mexico) freelance rater role, posted in July 2026 and closed on 1 September 2026, asked for five consecutive years of residence in Mexico and Spanish and English, as copied by a job aggregator. TELUS publishes no country list, so check the current listings.

Is TELUS AI Community work full time?

It is freelance. Postings say payment is based on completed tasks, and a Trustpilot reviewer wrote that it pays reliably when work exists but that work is sporadic.
