This is micro1's public listing for the role, read October 29, 2026, with dashes and placeholder links cleaned up. The listing is micro1's text; the summary above and everything below it is ours.

Role Title: CAD Design Expert (Instructor)

Role Type: Contractor/Part-time commitment of at least 10 hours per week, ideally 15-20 hours.

Location: Remote

micro1 is looking for experienced Mechanical Design Engineers and CAD Experts to contribute to an AI training project focused on complex mechanical assemblies. You'll use your practical CAD and mechanical design expertise to create challenging technical questions, analyze how mechanical components fit and move together, and help AI models develop a better understanding of real-world engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze complex 3D CAD assemblies, including how components fit together, move, and interact.
  • Create challenging, technically accurate questions about mechanical assemblies, with clear and verifiable answers.
  • Apply your understanding of joints, mates, constraints, degrees of freedom, clearances, and tolerances to solve assembly-related problems.
  • Explain the engineering reasoning behind your answers in a clear, structured way.
  • Review and validate technical questions and solutions to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate remotely with the project team and incorporate feedback to improve the quality of AI training materials.

What We're Looking For

  • Ideally 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience, particularly with complex, multi-part CAD assemblies.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one parametric CAD tool, such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Siemens NX, Inventor, Fusion 360, Onshape, or Solid Edge.
  • Practical experience designing mechanical systems with moving components, such as machinery, robotics, automation equipment, automotive mechanisms, or electromechanical products.
  • Good understanding of assembly constraints, mechanical motion, component interactions, tolerances, and design intent.
  • Ability to explain complex mechanical concepts clearly in written and spoken English.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to develop precise, technically correct solutions.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with FreeCAD.
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, or reviewing mechanical design work.
  • Professional CAD certifications, such as CSWP or CSWE.
  • Experience developing technical exercises, engineering assessments, or educational materials.

Pay and terms

The listing does not state a rate for this role. micro1's expert guide describes pay in bands by type of work rather than per role, so treat any figure you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until it appears in your contract.

micro1 engages experts as contractors. Its help library says payments are made in USD twice a month and that contracts and payroll run through Deel. Payments cannot be processed until identity verification there is complete. Read our micro1 review for what workers say about project availability and support.

Before you apply

Engineering and trades listings ask for hands-on experience with specific tools, standards or certifications. Have the names and levels ready.

Applying starts with an AI interview, then certification, then matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project, so treat this as flexible work and not as a job offer. The how to become an AI trainer guide walks through each step.

Can you work remotely as a CAD designer?

At micro1, the CAD Design Expert (Instructor) role is listed as remote contractor work, and collaboration with the project team is asynchronous, mostly in writing. It prefers 5+ years of professional CAD design and mastery of a major parametric package such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion, Onshape or Solid Edge. No prior AI experience is required.

What does a CAD designer do?

In micro1's version, you design manufacturable multi-part assemblies with parametric CAD tools and explain your reasoning on architecture, component placement and tolerance stack-ups so AI can learn from it. You also document design rationales and DFM considerations, annotate models, and critique sample designs. A recognized CAD credential such as CSWE or CSWP is highly valued.

How much does a CAD designer get paid?

This site does not publish market salary data for CAD designers and gives no general figure. The micro1 listing for this CAD Design Expert (Instructor) role states no pay rate. Rates on micro1 listings describe a project, not earnings or hours, so check the terms micro1 provides before you accept a project.
