Role Title: Law Review Cite-Checker

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

Opportunity Snapshot

Pay: $50-80/hour

You’ll need: Current or recent law school enrollment, hands-on Bluebook experience, and law journal or law review editing experience

Your tasks: Review citation-checking rubrics and build sample cite-checking tasks

Job Description

micro1 is engaging law students and recent law graduates with law journal experience to support a legal citation project. If you’ve spent time cite-checking for a law review or journal, this is that skill applied to a new context. No prior AI experience is required - your Bluebook fluency and editorial judgment are what matter.

Scope of Work

  • Review existing Bluebook and pincite grading rubrics, and flag rules that are unclear, incomplete, or would be applied inconsistently by different editors.
  • Identify edge cases the rubrics don’t currently cover and recommend how they should be handled.
  • Create sample cite-checking tasks: source material paired with citations containing realistic errors, along with the correct answer and an explanation of the rule involved.
  • Build tasks across a range of citation types and difficulty levels, from straightforward formatting errors to subtle pincite and source-support problems.
  • Apply Bluebook rules consistently across all submissions.
  • Flag ambiguous cases to project coordinators instead of resolving them silently.
  • Deliver assigned work on schedule and at the required quality level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current law student (2L, 3L) or recent JD graduate.
  • Law review or law journal experience, ideally including a cite-checking or source-collection role.
  • Strong working knowledge of The Bluebook, including pincites, short forms, signals, and parentheticals.
  • Able to explain why a citation is wrong, not just that it is - the reasoning matters as much as the correction.
  • Careful and consistent across long sessions of detailed review work.
  • Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines without close supervision.
  • Experience as a journal editor, articles editor, or executive editor is a plus.
