Role Title: PhysioNet Competitor (Biomedical Signal Processing & ML)

Pay: $60-$120/hour

Location: Global, fully remote

Job Type: Contractor (~15 hours per week)

Schedule: Flexible-you choose the hours and days you work, including weekends if desired

micro1 is engaging specialists with experience in the PhysioNet Challenge or comparable biomedical signal processing and machine learning competitions. In this role, you will apply your scientific programming, signal processing, and modeling expertise to create, solve, and evaluate advanced technical problems that help improve next-generation AI systems.

We are looking for people who have worked directly with physiological signals and can turn noisy, real-world data into a rigorous and reproducible analysis. Strong candidates will be able to explain the methods they developed, the experiments they ran, the technical decisions they personally owned, and how they validated their results. No prior experience working on AI training projects is required.

Scope of Work

  • Create technically rigorous, self-contained problems involving biomedical signals, time-series data, signal processing, and machine learning.
  • Develop clear reference solutions using Python, MATLAB, or another appropriate scientific computing environment.
  • Work with tasks involving signal preprocessing, filtering, segmentation, feature extraction, representation learning, classification, or forecasting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Participation in a PhysioNet/Computing in Cardiology Challenge or a comparable biomedical signal processing or scientific machine learning competition.
  • Strong competition results and evidence of a substantive personal technical contribution.
  • Public evidence of your work through an official team result, conference paper, technical report, open-source repository, or meaningful code contribution.
  • Hands-on experience with physiological signals such as ECG, EEG, PPG, EMG, respiratory signals, polysomnography, or other clinical time-series data.

Process

  • Apply to the role and complete the screening questions.
  • Complete an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes.
  • Complete the hiring manager review.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete each task may vary depending on the expert’s experience and workflow.

Minimum submission requirements apply.

Start Timeline & Availability

  • We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts who are ready to begin immediately. If selected, you will be expected to start your first task within 24-48 hours of completing onboarding.

Pay and terms

The listing states $60 to $120 per hour. That is micro1's listed rate for the project. It is not a promise of earnings, and the listing does not guarantee a number of hours. The same listing also says pay is output-based, paid per task that meets the project specifications, so what you earn per hour depends on how fast you complete accepted tasks.

micro1 engages experts as contractors. Its help library says payments are made in USD twice a month and that contracts and payroll run through Deel. Payments cannot be processed until identity verification there is complete. Read our micro1 review for what workers say about project availability and support.

Before you apply

Data and ML listings tend to ask for hands-on project work or an advanced degree. Be ready to describe a model, analysis or competition result you personally built.

Applying starts with an AI interview, then certification, then matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project, so treat this as flexible work and not as a job offer. The how to become an AI trainer guide walks through each step.

People also ask

What is biomedical signal processing?

In micro1's PhysioNet Competitor role, it means working with physiological signals such as ECG, EEG, PPG, EMG and respiratory signals. You write self-contained problems and reference solutions in Python, MATLAB or similar, covering filtering, segmentation, feature extraction, classification or forecasting. The listing shows $60 to $120 per hour, though compensation is output-based, per task that meets specifications, for about 15 hours a week.

What does signal processing do?

This page does not teach signal processing in general. In this micro1 role, the listing describes work on noisy physiological data, such as preprocessing, filtering, segmentation, feature extraction, classification and forecasting. Contributors turn it into reference solutions in Python, MATLAB or similar tools. The same term can describe different work elsewhere.

What is biosignal sensing?

This page does not define biosignal sensing. The micro1 listing does not use the term, but it asks for hands-on work with physiological signals, naming ECG, EEG, PPG, EMG, respiratory and sleep-study data. The listed scope is creating analysis problems and reference solutions around that data, not working on sensor hardware.

How much does the PhysioNet Competitor (Biomedical Signal Processing & ML) role at micro1 pay?

The listing states $60 to $120 per hour. That is micro1's listed rate for the project, not a promise of earnings, and hours are not guaranteed. The listing also says pay is output-based, paid per accepted task, so your hourly earnings depend on how quickly you complete tasks. Check the listing itself for the current figure.

Is the PhysioNet Competitor (Biomedical Signal Processing & ML) role remote?

Yes. The listing describes it as remote work. On where you can be based, it says: remote, worldwide. Read the eligibility line on the listing before you apply.
