micro1 role

Mathematics Expert (MSc./PhD) at micro1

Mathematicians create, solve and check advanced problems that can be handled through scripted, command-line workflows, to train AI. A typical task turns a math problem into a computation, implements the equations or algorithms in Python, produces a reproducible result, tests special cases and judges whether the answer is valid.

Location: Global, fully remote

Job Type: Contractor (~15 hours per week)

Schedule: Flexible - you can choose the hours and days you work, including weekends if desired as long as you're active.

We are looking for highly skilled Mathematics Experts to contribute to an AI training project involving advanced mathematical problem-solving, computational mathematics, numerical methods, and Python.

The work involves creating, solving, reviewing, and validating mathematical tasks that can be completed through programmatic, command-line-based workflows. A representative task may require translating a mathematical problem into a computational procedure, implementing the relevant equations or algorithms, calculating a reproducible result, testing special cases, and determining whether the final answer is mathematically and numerically valid.

What You’ll Work On

  • Solve and validate advanced mathematical and computational problems.
  • Translate mathematical requirements into precise, executable workflows.
  • Implement mathematical workflows using Python and command-line-accessible tools.
  • Use Python to automate calculations, numerical experiments, parameter sweeps, visualization, and result validation.

Required Qualifications

  • An MS or PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computational Science, Theoretical Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field; or
  • A BS in Mathematics or a closely related quantitative field plus at least 1-2 years of mathematics-focused professional or research experience in top companies/institutions.
  • Strong expertise in at least one mathematical area, such as applied mathematics, numerical analysis, optimization, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, algebra, geometry, mathematical modeling, or dynamical systems.

Relevant tools may include Python, SymPy, SageMath, SciPy, CVXPY, NumPy, GNU Octave, Julia, or similar programmatic mathematical software. Experience with an equivalent CLI-accessible tool is acceptable.

Relevant Python tools may include NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter, CVXPY, statsmodels, NetworkX, numerical solvers, optimization libraries, or domain-specific scientific packages. No single library is mandatory.

Process

  • Apply to the role and complete the screening questions.
  • Complete an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes.
  • Complete the hiring manager review.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete each task may vary depending on the expert’s experience and workflow.

Minimum submission requirements apply.

Start Timeline & Availability

  • We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts who are ready to begin immediately. If selected, you will be expected to start your first task within 24-48 hours of completing onboarding.

Pay and terms

The listing states $80 to $120 per hour. That is micro1's listed rate for the project. It is not a promise of earnings, and the listing does not guarantee a number of hours. The same listing also says pay is output-based, paid per task that meets the project specifications, so what you earn per hour depends on how fast you complete accepted tasks.

micro1 engages experts as contractors. Its help library says payments are made in USD twice a month and that contracts and payroll run through Deel. Payments cannot be processed until identity verification there is complete. Read our micro1 review for what workers say about project availability and support.

Before you apply

Science listings often ask for a master's degree or PhD in the field. Have your degree, field and publication or research background ready to describe.

Applying starts with an AI interview, then certification, then matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project, so treat this as flexible work and not as a job offer. The how to become an AI trainer guide walks through each step.
