micro1 role
Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc. or PhD) at micro1
Coding-heavy work for mechanical engineers. Contributors build, solve and check engineering problems spanning structural, thermal, mechanical and multiphysics work, such as converting real-world physical needs into computational models, building geometry or meshes, setting materials and boundary conditions, and running simulations. Coding agents must already be part of the workflow.

Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc. or PhD)
Pay: $60-$120/hour
Location: Global, fully remote
Job Type: Contractor (~15 hours per week)
Schedule: Flexible - you choose the hours and days you work, including weekends if desired
We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Expert to contribute to an AI training project involving engineering design, physical modeling, simulation, technical problem-solving, and Python.
The work involves creating, solving, reviewing, and validating engineering tasks across structural, thermal, mechanical, and multiphysics domains. A representative task may require translating physical requirements into a computational model, generating the required geometry or mesh, applying materials and boundary conditions, running an engineering simulation, and determining whether the resulting artifact and analysis satisfy the applicable physical and design constraints.
This is a very coding heavy role. Candidates must have experience using coding agents in their workflow.
What You’ll Work On
- Solve and validate mechanical-engineering problems involving design, analysis, simulation, testing, or R&D.
- Translate physical systems and engineering requirements into analytical or computational models.
- Create or modify geometry, meshes, materials, loads, contacts, constraints, and solver inputs.
Required Qualifications
- An MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or
- Strong understanding of applied mechanics and mechanical-engineering fundamentals.
- Experience developing analytical, computational, or simulation-based engineering solutions.
- Practical proficiency with coding agents.
Process
- Apply to the role and complete the screening questions.
- Complete an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes.
- Complete the hiring manager review.
Compensation Structure
Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete each task may vary depending on the expert’s experience and workflow.
Minimum submission requirements apply.
Start Timeline & Availability
We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts who are ready to begin immediately. If selected, you will be expected to start your first task within 24-48 hours of completing onboarding.

Pay and terms
The listing states $60 to $120 per hour. That is micro1's listed rate for the project. It is not a promise of earnings, and the listing does not guarantee a number of hours. The same listing also says pay is output-based, paid per task that meets the project specifications, so what you earn per hour depends on how fast you complete accepted tasks.
micro1 engages experts as contractors. Its help library says payments are made in USD twice a month and that contracts and payroll run through Deel. Payments cannot be processed until identity verification there is complete. Read our micro1 review for what workers say about project availability and support.
Before you apply
Engineering and trades listings ask for hands-on experience with specific tools, standards or certifications. Have the names and levels ready.
Applying starts with an AI interview, then certification, then matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project, so treat this as flexible work and not as a job offer. The how to become an AI trainer guide walks through each step.

People also ask
Is it possible to work remotely as a mechanical engineer?
At micro1, yes for this role: the Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc. or PhD) listing is global, fully remote contractor work of about 15 hours a week. The schedule is flexible, so you choose your hours and days, weekends included. The listed rate is $60 to $120 per hour, but pay is output-based per task, and the listing expects a very coding-heavy workflow with coding agents.
Can a mechanical engineer work from home?
For this micro1 project, yes. The listing is fully remote with a self-chosen schedule, and it asks for a master's or PhD in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or a strong grounding in applied mechanics and simulation-based solutions. Hiring is an application with screening questions, an AI interview of about 30 minutes, and a hiring manager review.
What type of jobs do mechanical engineers do?
In micro1's listing, the work is computational: turning physical requirements into models, creating geometry or meshes, applying materials, loads and constraints, running engineering simulations, and judging whether results meet physical and design constraints. It spans structural, thermal, mechanical and multiphysics problems. This is one micro1 project, not a list of mechanical engineering jobs.
Which engineer makes $500,000 a year?
This site does not publish market pay for engineers, so it cannot point to a role at that level. This micro1 Mechanical Engineering Expert listing states $60 to $120 per hour for about 15 hours a week, paid per task that meets project specifications. That is a listed rate, not earnings, and hours are not guaranteed.
Can you make $200,000 a year as a mechanical engineer?
We cannot confirm that, because we publish no salary data for mechanical engineers. The micro1 listing here is remote and worldwide, lists $60 to $120 per hour, and pays per approved task rather than by salary. Hours are not guaranteed, so no yearly figure follows from it.
What engineers make $200,000 a year?
This site gives no general pay figures for engineering roles, so it cannot list who earns that. The micro1 role covered here is a coding-heavy, simulation-focused contract that lists $60 to $120 per hour. A listed rate is a project rate, not earnings, and other employers may differ.
How much does the Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc. or PhD) role at micro1 pay?
The listing states $60 to $120 per hour. That is micro1's listed rate for the project, not a promise of earnings, and hours are not guaranteed. The listing also says pay is output-based, paid per accepted task, so your hourly earnings depend on how quickly you complete tasks. Check the listing itself for the current figure.
Is the Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc. or PhD) role remote?
Yes. The listing describes it as remote work. On where you can be based, it says: remote, worldwide. Read the eligibility line on the listing before you apply.
How do I apply for the Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc. or PhD) role?
Open the listing on micro1's site and apply there. Applying starts with an AI interview, followed by certification and matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project. Our how to become an AI trainer guide covers each step.
