Role Title: CFD Engineer

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging CFD Engineers to contribute to a project focused on advancing the capabilities of AI technologies within engineering simulation. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required - your domain knowledge is what matters. This opportunity enables you to impact the future of engineering by ensuring that AI systems can accurately interpret, solve, and explain complex computational fluid dynamics challenges across mesh generation, turbulence modeling, multiphase and heat-transfer simulation, solver setup, and verification & validation. Contributors who value accuracy, technical depth, and clear communication - both written and verbal - will find this engagement uniquely rewarding and influential.

Scope of Work

  • Evaluate and solve advanced CFD challenges involving mesh generation, turbulence modeling, multiphase flow, heat transfer, and solver configuration.
  • Review and assess AI-generated technical responses for correctness, accuracy, and engineering integrity.
  • Apply practical engineering judgment to simulation scenarios and theoretical fluid-dynamics questions.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot CFD problems using best practices such as mesh independence, turbulence model selection, boundary-condition specification, and convergence analysis.
  • Contribute domain expertise to refine and inform the reasoning capabilities of AI in computational fluid dynamics.
  • Document feedback and provide clear written and verbal explanations that enhance AI learning and performance.
  • Collaborate remotely within a distributed network of technical experts and project participants.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on fluid dynamics or thermofluids; or equivalent practical experience (3+ years) in CFD.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience conducting and validating CFD simulations, including mesh generation, solver setup, turbulence modeling, multiphase/heat-transfer analysis, or post-processing in industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy, marine, HVAC, process, or biomedical.
  • Deep understanding of Navier-Stokes equations, turbulence modeling (RANS, LES, DES), meshing strategies, boundary-condition specification, and verification & validation practices.
  • Proven ability to analyze and validate fluid flow, heat-transfer, and multiphysics problems using CFD tools, cross-referencing with experimental or analytical data.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and practices (e.g., ASME V&V 20, AIAA CFD verification & validation, ITTC procedures).
  • Excellent English proficiency with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with CFD software (such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, COMSOL, or Converge) is a strong plus, as is a documented history of problem-authoring, technical committee service, competition leadership, or peer-recognized contributions in the CFD community.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based; experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete work may vary depending on the expert's experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply. Experts must submit a minimum of tasks per week.

Start Timeline & Availability

Pay and terms

The listing does not state a rate for this role. micro1's expert guide describes pay in bands by type of work rather than per role, so treat any figure you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until it appears in your contract.

micro1 engages experts as contractors. Its help library says payments are made in USD twice a month and that contracts and payroll run through Deel. Payments cannot be processed until identity verification there is complete. Read our micro1 review for what workers say about project availability and support.

Before you apply

Engineering and trades listings ask for hands-on experience with specific tools, standards or certifications. Have the names and levels ready.

Applying starts with an AI interview, then certification, then matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project, so treat this as flexible work and not as a job offer. The how to become an AI trainer guide walks through each step.
