micro1 role

Aerodynamics Expert (MSc. or PhD) at micro1

Engineers with fluid dynamics expertise build and check aerodynamic problems that can be solved from the command line. A typical task covers setting up an airfoil case, meshing the domain, choosing boundary conditions, then running CFD to get lift and drag and judging whether the flow solution is physically sound. Python automates the workflow.

Aerodynamics Expert (MSc. or PhD)

Pay: $80-$120/hour

Location: Global, fully remote

Job Type: Contractor (~15 hours per week)

Schedule: Flexible - you can choose the hours and days you work, including weekends if desired

We are looking for a highly skilled Aerodynamics Expert to contribute to an AI training project involving computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamic analysis, engineering simulation, and Python.

The work involves creating, solving, reviewing, and validating engineering tasks that can be completed through programmatic, command-line-based workflows. A representative task may require analyzing an airfoil, preparing a computational domain and mesh, defining appropriate boundary conditions, running a CFD simulation, calculating lift and drag, and determining whether the resulting flow field is numerically and physically valid.

What You’ll Work On

  • Solve and validate aerodynamic and fluid-dynamics problems.
  • Translate physical requirements into computational models and solver-ready cases.
  • Create or modify geometries, computational domains, and meshes.
  • Define appropriate initial conditions, boundary conditions, fluid properties, and solver settings.
  • Run CFD and aerodynamic-analysis workflows using command-line-accessible tools.
  • Use Python to automate preprocessing, simulation execution, parameter sweeps, postprocessing, and validation.

Required Qualifications

  • An MS or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with an aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, or thermofluids specialization; or
  • A BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering plus at least 1-2 years of aero-specific professional or research experience.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics.
  • Experience formulating and executing CFD or aerodynamic analyses.
  • Practical proficiency with Python.
  • Experience with at least one engineering tool or library that can be operated through a CLI, scripting interface, configuration files, or programmatic API.
  • Ability to select and justify modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh strategies, and solver settings.
  • Ability to diagnose non-convergence, unstable solutions, incorrect results, and physically invalid outputs.
  • Ability to communicate technical reasoning and engineering trade-offs clearly.

Relevant tools may include Python, OpenFOAM, SU2, Gmsh, FEniCSx, Elmer, CalculiX, SciPy, or similar programmatic engineering software. Experience with an equivalent CLI-accessible tool is acceptable.

Relevant Python tools may include NumPy, SciPy, pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter, solver APIs, mesh-processing libraries, or domain-specific scientific packages. No single library is mandatory.

Process

  • Apply to the role and complete the screening questions.
  • Complete an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes.
  • Complete the hiring manager review.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete each task may vary depending on the expert’s experience and workflow.

Minimum submission requirements apply.

Start Timeline & Availability

  • We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts who are ready to begin immediately. If selected, you will be expected to start your first task within 24-48 hours of completing onboarding.

Pay and terms

The listing states $80 to $120 per hour, with compensation paid per task that meets project specifications. That is micro1's listed rate for the project. It is not a promise of earnings, and the listing does not guarantee a number of hours. The same listing also says pay is output-based, paid per task that meets the project specifications, so what you earn per hour depends on how fast you complete accepted tasks.

micro1 engages experts as contractors. Its help library says payments are made in USD twice a month and that contracts and payroll run through Deel. Payments cannot be processed until identity verification there is complete. Read our micro1 review for what workers say about project availability and support.

Before you apply

Science listings often ask for a master's degree or PhD in the field. Have your degree, field and publication or research background ready to describe.

Applying starts with an AI interview, then certification, then matching to projects by recruiters. micro1 says certification does not guarantee a project, so treat this as flexible work and not as a job offer. The how to become an AI trainer guide walks through each step.

What does an aerodynamic engineer do?

For this micro1 contractor role, the job is to create, solve, review and validate engineering tasks used in AI training. The listing asks for an MS or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering, or a BS plus 1 to 2 years of aero-specific experience. It lists $80 to $120 per hour and about 15 hours a week, but compensation is paid per task that meets project specifications.

Do aerospace engineers typically earn $200,000 a year?

This site does not publish market salary data for aerospace engineers and gives no general figure. This micro1 listing states $80 to $120 per hour, with compensation paid per task that meets the project specifications, for a contract of about 15 hours a week. A listed rate describes the project, not earnings, and hours are not guaranteed, so an annual total cannot be worked out from it.

Do aerospace engineers make 800k a year?

We have no market data to confirm or rule out a figure like that, and this site publishes no salary figures for the profession. For this micro1 listing, the stated rate is $80 to $120 per hour, paid per task that meets specifications rather than for time worked, and the time each task takes varies by expert. That makes it project pay, not an annual salary.

How much does the Aerodynamics Expert (MSc. or PhD) role at micro1 pay?
